A relatively relaxed and open-ended request, the client wanted a simple logo to represent their wooded property. The client’s nickname for the property was “Toad Hollow” because of the surplus of toads and frogs, including Zucchini, a recognizeable and regular toad guest. The incorporation of a tiny mouse was important and referenced the critter hidden in her father’s commercial illustrations. This was an informal project and didn’t take very long to complete, the client was also very responsive so the design process moved quickly. I started by doodling elements to feature in the logo, then moved to element layout. I started manually illustrating the elements before digitally redrawing them and positioning them within the collar band. I kept the design simple so it could be printed on a variety of things without hassle, and I wanted the text to be defined but still with a bit of personality so I settled on a more cottage-rustic serif typeface.

Up until this project, all my briefs had been extended out across a few months, I hadn’t had a “flash-challenge” to create a logo in a very short amount of time. At first I was worried if I could produce a quality product in a short timeframe but it was rather enjoyable and less intimidating, I quickly learned a good system for myself when working under short time contraints that I can apply to future work.
